1. Introduction

Coffee Info (the “Service”) is an information service providing coffee origins, market prices, tasting logs and the like. This policy explains what information is handled when you use the Service and how it is handled.

2. Information we handle

The Service handles the following information:

  • Locally stored data: Favorite origins, tasting records, bean inventory, blend designs, brew logs, quiz stats, streaks and the like are stored only in your browser (localStorage / IndexedDB). They are not sent to our servers.
  • Access logs: Via Vercel Analytics we collect aggregated data such as page views, country and device type. No cookies; no personal identification.
  • Error reports: When an unexpected error occurs in the app, the error message, stack trace, URL and user agent are sent to the server. No personally identifying information is included. You can opt out from the settings screen.
  • Contact form: Your name, email address and message are sent to the operator via Resend (an email delivery service). Only the email address is kept, for replying, and is not used for any other purpose.
  • Newsletter signup: Only if you sign up, your email address is stored with Resend (an email delivery service) and used to send new articles and seasonal-origin updates. It is free, you can unsubscribe anytime via the link in each email, and your address is removed from the list after you unsubscribe.

3. Third-party services

  • Vercel: hosting, Analytics (cookieless, anonymous aggregation only), server-side function execution
  • Resend: email delivery for the contact form; newsletter signup and delivery
  • Wikipedia: fetching representative origin images
  • Google News (RSS): fetching coffee-related news headlines
  • ICE futures / public FX API / FRED (IMF data): market price information
  • Google AdSense: ad delivery (see “6. About ad delivery”)
  • ValueCommerce (LinkSwitch): automatic conversion of affiliate links and click measurement
  • A8.net: affiliate measurement for some merchants (Blue Bottle Coffee, etc.)

Please check each company’s site for their privacy policy.

4. Use of cookies

The Service uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

  • Convenience such as theme setting (dark/light): browser Local Storage
  • Ad delivery (Google AdSense): cookies and the like are used to deliver interest-based ads
  • Affiliate measurement (ValueCommerce, A8.net, etc.): cookies to measure transitions to external merchants

The cookies Google uses for ad delivery follow Google’s policy. You can disable ad personalization from Ads Settings, or via your region’s opt-out method (e.g. aboutads.info in the US).

5. Affiliate programs

The Service participates in the following affiliate programs. The relevant links are those marked “PR” in the “Find coffee” sections of origin pages and articles:

  • Amazon.co.jp Associates Program
  • Rakuten Affiliate
  • ValueCommerce (LinkSwitch): Yahoo! Shopping, etc.
  • A8.net: Blue Bottle Coffee official online store, etc.

When a product is purchased via a “PR” link, the Service receives a referral fee from each program. Prices and purchase conditions are identical to the normal retail site; no extra cost is incurred by the user.

In line with Japan’s rules against stealth marketing, we display a “PR” label that is identifiable as advertising. Purchase data via affiliates is managed individually by each operator; we do not obtain individual purchase histories.

6. About ad delivery (Google AdSense)

The Service uses Google AdSense, a third-party ad-delivery service.

  • Google, as an ad-delivery provider, may use cookies to display ads matched to user interests
  • The cookies contain no personally identifying information
  • Ads delivered by third-party providers or ad networks may appear on the site
  • Third-party providers including Google use cookies to deliver ads based on a user’s prior visits to this and other sites

Users can disable cookies in Ads Settings. You can also visit aboutads.info to disable third-party providers’ cookies.

The Service complies with Google AdSense policies and is configured so that inappropriate ads (adult, violence, discrimination, etc.) are not shown to users.

7. Deleting & exporting data

From the “Your data” section of the settings screen, you can export/import saved data as a JSON file. Locally stored data can be deleted at any time from your browser settings.

8. Children’s privacy

The Service is not intended for those under 13. If someone under 13 has provided personal information, a guardian should contact us below.

9. Changes to this policy

We may revise this policy as necessary. Significant changes will be announced on this page.
