Coffee arrived with missionaries in the late 19th century, but serious commercial growing dates from the 1980s. With better cultivation and processing, lots recognized by the specialty market keep increasing.
Baoshan hosts a Starbucks Farmer Support Center, and majors such as Nestlé buy here as well. Beyond specialty-minded micro-lots, the breadth of its commercial-grade Asian coffee is one reason Yunnan coffee keeps growing so fast.
