About this region

i.Finesse from a thousand hills

Bourbon grown on the highlands of Rwanda — the storied “land of a thousand hills” — yields a floral cup as light as black tea. Huye (formerly Butare) is one of its representative origins: home ground of the National University of Rwanda, a base for coffee research and training, with washing stations of consistently reliable quality.

ii.A note on the potato defect

In the East African Great Lakes region spanning Rwanda and Burundi, a flavor taint called the “potato defect” very occasionally turns up in a small fraction of green beans. Choosing a trustworthy roaster and finishing the bag promptly after opening is the safe play. Good Huye lots carry a refinement that more than repays the caution.

iii.How to enjoy it

To honor the tea-like texture and floral aromatics, roast light to medium and extract clean. Water at 92–94°C on a paper drip lets you drink it the way you would fine black tea.
