About this region

i.Flavor raised by the mist of the “Mountains of the Moon”

Glacier-capped though it stands on the equator, the Rwenzori range has been spoken of since antiquity as the legendary “Mountains of the Moon.” Marking the border with the DR Congo, its high elevations and abundant mist slow the cherries’ ripening and shape delicate, floral flavor.

ii.Western Uganda’s new specialty

Cultivation here long played a supporting role to bananas and other crops, but with rising specialty demand, cooperatives and smallholders have been building washing stations and shipping micro-lots in earnest. The Rwenzori is emerging beside Mount Elgon as the second pillar of Ugandan arabica.
