About this region

i.Coffee in the Andean mist

The Yungas occupy the precipitous eastern slope of the Andes, with a singular terrain and climate where moist Amazonian air piles up as mist. Altitude and fog ripen the cherries slowly, producing the delicate, sweet, floral cup Bolivia is loved for. Production centers on smallholders, and coffee has long been promoted here as an alternative crop to coca.

ii.Where Caranavi fits

The Yungas is a broad geographic concept taking in Nor Yungas, Sud Yungas, Caranavi and other provinces — contiguous with Caranavi, which has its own entry on this site. Even within the same Yungas, the higher zones drink floral and delicate while Caranavi (mid-altitude) balances chocolate and orange: real breadth of profile inside one region.

iii.How to enjoy it

A light-to-medium roast respects the delicate sweetness and florals. Extracted clean, the honey-like finish comes into its own.
