How to read this roaster
WEEKENDERS COFFEE is a stylish specialty roaster tucked into a back alley off Tominokoji, Kyoto. A short remove from the tourist bustle of Shijo-Kawaramachi, it keeps its "known to those who know" air — one of the quiet symbols of Kyoto coffee culture, respected for seasonal single origins and idiosyncratic house blends.
A minimal space in a Kyoto alley
The shop, at the end of a narrow lane off Tominokoji-dori, is a small Japanese-modern space with a pocket garden. Open since 2014 as a place to concentrate on the coffee away from tourist noise, it has long been a Kyoto coffee lover’s standard.
The fun of seasonal lots
The monthly-rotating seasonal lineup builds character from combinations of origin and process — the extreme fruit of an Ethiopian natural, an anaerobic Colombia, the medium-roast balance of a Guatemala. Every visit meets a different face.
The design of the house blends
WEEKENDERS’ house blends combine multiple origins into directions of their own. In a specialty era where single origins have become the default, the shop’s persistence in presenting what makes a blend interesting has earned real respect.
Recommended brewing
Paper drip (V60 or Kalita Wave) at 92–94°C, 1:15–16. WEEKENDERS’ seasonal lots change face with a single degree of water temperature — trying several temperatures is a genuinely fun experiment.
