Overview

Brunca, in southern Costa Rica, grows coffee across a wide range of conditions at 600–1,400m.

Washed processing finishes it gentle and approachable — nuts, milk chocolate, light fruit.Drinkability rather than flash is its calling card, and it appears in many espresso blends: a region that supports the “base” of Costa Rican coffee.

About this region

i.The gentle south

Costa Rica’s southernmost region, near the Panamanian border, includes more lower-lying districts than the celebrated central highlands (Tarrazú, the Central Valley), and the flavor is correspondingly milder. A relatively young appellation, it grows coffee amid the rich natural surroundings near Corcovado National Park, itself a well-known destination.

ii.Why blenders rely on it

Gentle acidity and settled nut-and-milk-chocolate flavor slot easily into the base of espresso and drip blends — a taste that never wearies the palate. It keeps Costa Rican clarity while never stealing the lead role: an outstanding supporting player.
