The Misuku Hills and the Gesha variety
Malawian coffee is raised by smallholders in the northern highlands — the Misuku Hills, the Viphya plateau, the country around Mzuzu. The cool, high climate produces bright acidity and clean sweetness. Most notable: Gesha, the variety that conquered the world from Panama, grows here in Malawi too — one of the few places in Africa where it does, a point that has long intrigued enthusiasts. Volumes are small, with careful washed processing and AA grading holding the quality line.
